RAISING THE STANDARD
What will give you confidence that the trainer you are considering engaging will provide a return on investment or expectation?
The Standard
The Standard is the first ‘occupational’ standard specifically developed to measure the full range of competence and behaviours expected of a commercially focused learning and development practitioner. It has been commented “This is long overdue”.
200 Years of Expertise
The Standard was drawn up by a highly experienced team of learning and development professionals with close to 200 years of combined expertise.
Essential Principles
The Standard is a set of Principles: to which a Learning Practitioner commits and by which their competence and behaviours are measured in respect to Personal, Operational and Commercial undertakings.
In the three Principles that make up the Standard essential for those engaging a trainer:
- The Personal Principle covers ethical practice, effective communication and relationship building and Professional Development
- The Operational Principle covers best practice from advice through design and delivery to evaluation of learning activities and processes
- The Commercial Principle covers business planning, running a commercial entity and monitoring ongoing business success

The next time you are in contact with a trainer looking to engage them, ask them if they are a CLP. If they are; then the Learning Practitioners' Association, their trade association, can assure you that they can do a professional job and meet your agreed objectives.
