CBI’S TRADE ASSOCIATION COUNCIL EXTENDS A WARM WELCOME TO PCG

17 February 2010

PCG, which represents the UK's freelancers, contractors and consultants, has been invited to join the CBI’s Trade Association Council. The invitation comes as the CBI recognises the important and valuable contribution that PCG can make to the current and future debate on workforce, employment and resourcing issues.

A report just published by PCG, entitled “Freeing Up Growth: How to harness freelance talent for business success”, highlights the important role that flexible, freelance, agile professionals will play in the next decade and beyond. Richard Lambert, director-general at the CBI concurs that "labour market flexibility will remain the UK's real competitive advantage.” The view presented by CBI members in the CBI's recent report "The shape of business - the next 10 years" is that "a significant number of businesses will move to a new employment model where the core of permanent staff is smaller and a greater number of freelancers, consultants and temporary workers are used". Both reports provide an excellent insight into how businesses are likely to adapt and evolve in the aftermath of the credit crunch and recession.

Said John Brazier, managing director of PCG: "The key trends presented by the CBI in the Voice of Business' report "The shape of business - the next 10 years" support PCG's view that the workplace and workstyle will change dramatically over the next ten years and we are delighted that the CBI recognises the role PCG can play, bringing our intelligence on the freelance market along to inform Trade Association Council members and ensure that this important group of workers, freelance contractors and consultants, are recognised as important contributors to UK plc. In fact, we know that there are 1.4 million freelancers contributing £82 billion to UK GDP across all major sectors of the economy."
